It can, but it’s not going to be one of the more demanding aerobic workouts. Best bet for shedding the extra fat are sprints. You don’t hear enough about the metabolism boosting capability of sprints compared to other steady state, lower intensity cardio. Sprints keep your body burning calories all day. It’s by far the best fat burner. Start easy with what you can handle, add an extra sprint every time you go out. Rest approximately 90 seconds between sprints. Depending on what feels good for you, I’d say 3-5 times a week.

Hi,
The rowing machine will help to burn calories from all over the body.
Start with 3 times a week for 20 minutes-make sure that you get your heart rate up.

yes it does.. it did it for me along with other cardio machines, kickboxing, dancing… bending and stretching… i started doing it for 5 mins and gradually worked my way up. now i can stay for like 20 mins… and i do it 3x a week. and i can honestly say that my waistline has gone down quite a bit… good luck God bless… and oh yeah another key to it is perseverance… motivation… self willingness….

It’s a great machine. I don’t know that it burns a lot of fat, but it does tighten up the abdominals, and keeps you very fit in the upper body.Just work when you want to , and give it ten minutes at the most. It’s quick and easy.

The rowing machine is quite an intense cardio workout, and you are right it does burn fat all over the body – including the stomach. Try to row for 1500 metres as fast as you can 4 times a week. Under 6 minutes is an excellent goal. After a few weeks, build it up to rowing 2000 metres as fast as you can. If you have a goal (ie beating your previous time) you will find yourself working harder, therefore getting more benefit! Once a week also do a 20 minute “leisure” row.

Hello there. I am a personal trainer and a fan of the rowing machine. The rowing machine is great for your back and your core muscles, however, I also suggest that you do a variety of work outs to tone your abs. Sticking to one work out will eventually cause you to plateau and you won’t get quick results. So I would alternate between the rowing machine, another type of cardiovascular activity for at least an hour 3 times a week and at least an hour of weight training two days a week. This will get you in tip top shape in no time.

PS. Crunches and the plank exercise are great for your abs and you don’t need a machine to do it!

it does. but the rowing machine is more for toning your arms/back & legs. more so than your stomach. it does work for your stomach too, but not that well, as much as doing cruunchs/sit-ups/side-sit-ups etc etc..

depends what you actually wanna do to your stomach, do you wanna just tone it up, or do you wanna loose fat also???

but the rowing machine is very good for calorie burn, and totally fantastic for the arms!!

do about 20 mins a day, 3 times a week, and you can burn approx 200 calories in 20 mins, machine number 8-10, going strong…
